March 1: Hilltop Super Stars

Hilltop Superstars - Saturday March 1st

For those not feeling the call to ski or board are invited and encouraged to still be a little physical on Saturday by participating in the annual Hilltop Superstars, held at Wilmington’s Central YMCA. This is a great team event and all people age 15 and up and encouraged to participate! A team of 6-10 people would be just great! Please see Jane Foskett and the signup/information sheet in Grace’s narthex. This event benefits the many programs of Hilltop Lutheran Neighborhood Center.

Friends, and family are welcome and we need a minimum of 15 participants (youth and adults!) Again, all ages welcome! Please see Josh or click here to sign up!

March 8-9 : Family Promise Beyond Box City

Family Promise Beyond Box City – Saturday March 8th – Sunday March 9th

Box city is back and better than ever! This year the event will be held indoors at St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Wilmington. This event is going to be really special this year and will help youth and families truly understand what it means to face homelessness, and how Family Promise works serve entire families in that situation. Grace’s adult community is full of strong advocates and allies of Family Promise, this is an opportunity for youth and their families to step up and make a difference for local New Castle County Families. Please see Josh Kelly or the youth website for more info and to register!

February 21-22: Hunger Lockin

Hunger Lockin – February 21st-22nd

All youth 6th grade and up are invited to join us for a lock-in. We will be polling our youth to see if they want to attempt a 30 hour famine this year or not. Voting will be conducted online with parents and youth. Either way the lock-in will start at 6pm and will go through most of Saturday. This lock-in is special as it will include a few service projects during the day Saturday and lots of team building games throughout. The focus of the service and the lock-in will be food & justice oriented. Friends are certainly welcome. The cost of this lock-in is $15, and parents are invited to help chaperone and or transport students on Sunday. Please see the youth website for further details.

2015 ELCA National Youth Gathering Primer Meeting - January 8th

For ALL parents of youth currently in 7th grade thru 11th grade

Wednesday January 8th - 6:30pm

I literally cannot BELIEVE I am even writing this BUT on Wednesday January 8th at 6:30pm there will be an informational session for parents of youth interested in the 2015 ELCA National Youth Gathering in Detroit. At this meeting you can ask questions and you will receive very preliminary information (ie Dates, costs, structure, etc.) It’s important to attend this meeting so that you, as a family can start determining and discerning if it’s right for your child(ren) to go on this trip. While I can’t guarantee this trip will be life changing, I can promise it is life impacting! All of our students who have attended this trip have come back with a deep love for one another and a deeper love for God. We may even have some special guests at this meeting! Be sure to let Josh know if you can’t attend!

Youth Christmas Party - December 8th

All youth, ages 6th grade and up should plan to spend an afternoon at Grace on Sunday December 8th following the second service. We will have a holiday lunch, and a gift exchange so any youth coming should bring a wrapped gift valued between $10 and $20 dollars that would be appropriate for either gender. We will then do a Pollyanna which usually turns into a white elephant type of exchange. Following the party and the lunch, we will head out to a tree farm to pick out the perfect Christmas tree for Grace! For this day I will be looking for volunteer meal providers and then a few adults who would be willing to drive us to the tree farm – This is also a GREAT opportunity to get your own Christmas tree – you’re already there. So families are welcome for the tree hunt! Friends are welcome too! (they also have to bring gifts!)
